Tre Maison Dasan
RESEARCH, IMPACT AND OUTREACH PROJECT
ALI was Producer of Impact and Engagement during and after the production of the award-winning feature documentary Tre Maison Dasan (director, Denali Tiller).
Narrative Knowledge research provided new causal and connective maps of the overlapping contexts that Tre, Maison, and Dasan - the young participants in the film find themselves a part of. These include enormous and complex systems such as education, mass incarceration, social and criminal justice, family, race, and adolescence itself. How these systems interconnect and affect the decisions of the kids at the heart of the film, and the adults around them who are so in control of their fates, were be laid bare by a qualitative, reflexive, narrative-based assessment.
Then a strategic campaign of engagements with the film generated qualitative audience-response data that we used to generate discussion and viewing guides, workshops, and a sustained engagement project to shift the culture around parental incarceration in the U.S. and beyond.
